About the Tasting Room

Drinking wine at tastng roomWhite Salmon Vineyard was the first winery on Underwood Mountain. Our wines are estate grown and produced by winemaker and grower, Peter Brehm. With forty years of experience making wine, and twenty-five years growing grapes, Peter’s wines are recognized by the wine community for their excellence.

Our wine tasting room at Cook-Underwood Road and SR14 is housed in the historic Underwood Mercantile building in Underwood, WA. The original Underwood Post Office once occupied this space and the long-gone corner at the confluence of the White Salmon and Columbia rivers also held a hotel and bar, butcher shop, and auction house. A ferry pier on the Columbia, built by Mr. Underwood, brought patrons from Hood River to the hotel and bar, as Oregon was “dry” many years ago. The theme continues.

The tasting room is Faye’s domain. She loves to serve not only her favorite wines but she also wants to introduce you to some of their best and finest wines: Two Chardonnays, one fermented and aged using stainless steel and the other in neutral French oak; the luscious mouth-feel of the Pinot Noir (that rivals the very best); and, the extraordinary Malbec/Syrah Field Blend. There’s lots to tempt your palate and get your juices flowing.

You can taste a flight or buy a glass or bottle of your favorite and sit outside enjoying the view of the Columbia River, Mt. Hood, kiteboarders or fishermen. The above will add to the ambience of your wine tasting experience. Inside you will find a friendly and knowledgeable staff to guide you through your tasting.

Over the years we have become known for our excellent wines, and people are always being referred to our tasting room. Taster’s Choice? Chardonnays, Pinot Noir and Field Blend, and Riesling. Of course individual tastes vary and we believe we have something for everyone. So come in and try.

Spectacular View

Our tasting room sits along the Columbia River and the view is breathtaking, even on a clouding day. Mt. Hood is definitely a show-stopper, but there are other attractions as well. The wind kiters with their colorful sails and high jumping stints, the Osprey fishing for lunch, the tug boats pushing barges, the ever changing clouds, and lets not forget the train. But let’s talk about the train later.

Tasty Small Plates

Smoked Salmon Plate

The best smoked salmon in The Gorge

In addition to our wine we serve small plates. Both a rarity and a specialty is our Smoked White Salmon. “Ivory” salmon is actually a king salmon, but with white flesh instead of pink or red. It is served on a neutral cracker with a smooth coating of goat or cream cheese, scallions or shallots, and topped with dill. We want the full essence of the fish to be foremost.

For the sweet tooth, we prepare strawberries or other seasonal fruit with whipped cream and shaved chocolate. And for something a little more substantial, we have a deli plate. Also served: sodas, water, snacks, and treats. Coffee is coming soon!

Our Wines
